Dr. Sigi Joseph

Dr. Sigi Joseph is a board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery. He completed his surgical residency from University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) and thereafter completed fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.

Dr. Joseph served at Bothwell Regional Hospital in Sedalia, Missouri from July 2012 to June 2015 where he had established a Surgical Weight Loss (Bariatric) program. Dr. Joseph completed MRCS General Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, United Kingdom.

He is a graduate from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, India, where he also completed MS General Surgery. Dr. Joseph moved to United Surgical Associates in August 2015, and in affiliation with Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri, established a bariatric surgery program as well as the United Bariatric Center where he practices.

Dr. Shaan Akhtar

Dr. Shaan Akhtar is a fellowship-trained minimally invasive, robotic, and bariatric surgeon. He is a native of Arizona, who graduated from Arizona State University for undergraduate education, and the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix for his medical school training.

He fell in love with the Midwest while in his general surgery residency training at the University of Kansas-Wichita. Dr. Akhtar completed his fellowship training at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX.

In his free time, Dr. Akhtar enjoys golf, basketball, and spending time with his wife and daughter.  He’s proud to serve the bariatric surgery community here in Kansas City.
